Overview:

The Maintenance & Equipment Lead Hand is a working Lead Hand role.  With the assistance of the company the Lead Hand will prioritize and co-ordinate work for, ensuring that maintenance activities are completed on time and in compliance with regulations. This role is responsible to train the Maintenance team.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrated Safety, and Quality mindset, demonstrating safety
  • Perform complex work, maintain and repair equipment and facilities, and respond to emergencies.
  • Assign daily tasks, and workorders to maintenance personnel. Train, and monitor work quality of maintenance personnel, and apprentices.
  • Repair defective machine parts using welding and brazing tools.
  • Safely Operate hoist and lifting devices, including cranes, jacks, and forklift to position parts during installations.
  • Perform preventative maintenance procedures and accurately log maintenance.
  • Read blueprints, diagrams, and schematic drawing to determine work procedures.
  • Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect irregularities.
  • Collaborating with production team and engineers, when necessary.
  • Apply mechanical repair principles and procedures to ensure machinery functions properly.
  • Review and follow highly technical and complex machinery manuals.
  • Recommend equipment changes to management teams.
  • Perform diagnostic testing on functioning machinary to ensure it’s safe.
  • Adjust complex machinery for new patterns and product, clean and lubricate machinery.
  • Electrical knowledge and able to read schematics.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean & orderly manner. Comply with the established safety policies, support continuing awareness for safety, and when possible recommend specific changes and improvements to health and safety policies and programs. Utilize computer systems to perform work (e.g., record work history, identify parts usage, identify warranties) in a timely and effective manner.
  • Perform work with a high level of attention to detail to ensure that all jobs are completed in an exemplary manner and any potential hazards or warning signs of problems are not overlooked.
  • Act as a replacement for the Maintenance supervisor when they are away.
  • Conduct check point inspections in lieu of an absent supervisor when required.
  • Assist in managing employees in the department.
  • Mentor new employees on process and techniques within the area for Learning and Development training completion when requested.
  • Assist the supervisor with SQDC stand ups and process improvements.
  • Assist in OIR investigations and help ensure that quality goals are met in the department.
  • Set an example to other employees within the work center and conduct activities in accordance with the core values of GATX by ensuring that the department is operated with integrity and respect towards all fellow employees.

Qualifications:

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:

  • Red Seal Journeyman Millwright.
  • High school diploma.
  • Computer software program skills.
  • Experience with budgetary processes and maintenance GL’s.
  • Demonstrated ability to reason through and plan work details and procedures to obtain desired results.
