HR Manager

As the HR Manager, you will report to the Director of HR Operations and be responsible for HR initiatives in employee and labor relations, policy development, and performance management. You will provide support and mentorship to the Montreal Service Center, leading compliance with laws and the collective bargaining agreement and effective communication of initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Labor and Employee Relations
- Directly accountable for managing the local committee. Primary contact for addressing employee and labor relations concerns. Responsibilities include resolving and preventing problems, offering mentorship to local management regarding grievances, and advising staff on labor-related issues.
- Direct investigations of complaints regarding grievances and breaches of company policies. Summarize facts for presentation to upper management.
- Coordinate policy and guidelines implementation; provide management mentorship for adherence.
- Manage the separation process, including conducting exit interviews to determine the underlying reasons for termination of employment, drafting separation letters, and determining final pay and final work.
Talent and Performance Management/ Organizational Development
- Develop, lead, and support programs that ensure employees' professional development.
- Develop initiatives that promote employee engagement and diversity, equity, and inclusion, and support company-wide initiatives.
- Manage the hiring process by crafting job postings, reviewing resumes and applications, performing and coordinating interviews, and preparing and extending offers, especially for salaried roles.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with university and community college placement offices to generate qualified applicants.
- Work closely with the Service Center and Talent, Learning & Development team to guide the onboarding process, which involves facilitating Learning Path supervisor and mentor activities, management reviews, and survey completion; detailing Learning Path completion through PeopleSoft data entry; and conducting HR components.
- Analyze personnel placement and other strategic issues with site managers and salaried staff. Ask pertinent questions and offer alternative solutions.
- Assist in developing and implementing training initiatives, policies, and procedures.
- Manage and supervise the completion of new hire performance reviews. Provide direction and counsel to managers and supervisors on performance concerns and develop and implement action plans.
Operational Excellence
- Manage, communicate, and guide programs that support the business. Generate strategies that improve employee engagement, attraction, development, and retention.
- Coordinate all aspects of employee administration, including counseling, insurance and pension coordination, leaves, recruiting and hiring, EAP, tuition aid, etc.
- Ensure efficient and consistent human resources processes for hiring and separation, including developing offer letters and separation agreements and ensuring communication of pay, benefits, and other information to other HR/Operations functions.
- Manage payroll process.
Management of HR Team
- Provide clear, proactive leadership to build a sense of urgency that embraces positive change.
- Develop and articulate clear performance goals and measures and provide timely feedback.
- Coordinate training and development activities to ensure the team possesses the necessary skills and certifications to meet company objectives.
Qualifications:
Experience Required:
- Bachelors or equivalent experience in Business Administration/Organizational Behavior/ Human Resources.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible human resource experience, with experience in managing a collective bargaining agreement (preferably in manufacturing or a related industry) preferred.
- Supervisory experience a plus.
- Strong digital literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); experience with applicant tracking systems a plus.
- Bilingual in both English and French.
- HR Certification a plus.
