My GATX Story

Heidi, Manager, International Commercial Development

I started my career with GATX in 2014 in an entry-level sales support role. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to take on a wide range of different roles and challenges. The philosophy from managers and leadership at GATX has always been that they want employees to grow and feel like they are adding value, even if that means switching positions or departments. Working at GATX also enabled me to pursue my MBA, which has helped me hone my problem solving skills, develop my business acumen, and learn to lead effective teams. All these skills have equipped me to move forward in the next step in my career at GATX as Manager, International Commercial Development. People often find that companies that value their people are the best places to work, and that’s something I can absolutely say about GATX.

GATX gives employees continued opportunities to be challenged and to get involved in different areas of the business. Because of this, my career has progressed in a way that might not have been possible at other companies. Every time I moved into a different role, my goal was always to learn as much as I could, especially when I was pushed outside my comfort zone. It has helped me see the bigger picture, and I’ve been able to apply that knowledge in each new position. Now as a leader, I like to give my team the freedom to explore and develop their ideas. We have smart, creative, engaged employees who are invested in their jobs and who care about the success of the company. I enjoy the work that I do, but I enjoy the people that I work with most of all.
